If fan engineering is not your area of expertise, selecting the best centrifugal blower for your application can be difficult. Because there are three types of centrifugal fans – forward-curved, backward-curved, and radial – selecting the proper one can be challenging.

If you choose the incorrect type or model of centrifugal fan, you risk compromising airflow and pressure and/or wasting expensive energy. So it's always a good idea to seek expert counsel. These are just a few of the things to think about...

FANS CENTRIFUGAL FOR DRYING APPLICATIONS

Drying is a critical use for ACI fans and air knives, particularly in sectors such as:

High-performance air knives and the fans that power them are used by major manufacturers to dry their products rapidly, efficiently, and cost-effectively - quickening production, increasing output, and improving production line dependability.

These production lines can be as wide as 4-5 meters. Every application is distinct, with its own set of very particular challenges. As a result, each solution must be tailor-made, even if it is based on standard components to retain cost-effectiveness and provide a faster return on investment.

Depending on the task, the fans that power the air knives for these applications might have forward-curved, backward-curved, or radial impellers.

Forward-curved centrifugal fans are smaller than radial fans and have higher pressure ratings than backward-curved fans. This makes forward-curved fans useful for drying applications, particularly those involving long, twisting ducting or other resistances.

Backward-curved centrifugal fans use less energy than forward-curved centrifugal fans. They are suited for applications requiring huge quantities of air to be carried at lower pressures than identical forward-curved and radial fans. Backward-curved fans are less expensive to operate as a result, although they may be excluded from applications requiring higher pressures.

Radial fans are better suited to applications requiring higher pressures and bigger air volumes.

There are numerous elements that influence the selection and performance of centrifugal fans in drying applications.

The finish on the object's surface can also have an impact on how long it takes to dry. Given how rapidly the production line runs and, as a result, how little time the object may spend under the air knife, even a minor roughness on the surface can make the object more likely to retain water.

COOLING OF INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES

This use is an outgrowth of drying since air is rarely used to chill an object; water does it much faster, but the object must later be dried. Colling/drying of steel or rubber strips is one example of an application.

These cooling/drying applications necessitate large amounts of low-pressure air. In this case, a compact forward-curved fan is frequently used. However, where wider ducting is needed, a larger backward-curved fan that uses less energy can be specified.

Because of the fragility of the components and the nature of the application, some devices, such as UV lights, are cooled by air. Forward-curved fans, such as the VBW6, are employed in this case.

The VB, HFM, and EV series fans are offered in a variety of configurations, including single- and three-phase motors with ATEX/IECEx ratings for use in explosive environments. Aside from cooling industrial processes, VBW fans are useful for fume extraction (including degreasing), screen printing drying, crop drying/conditioning, and gas burners.

A multi-stage fan, such as the MS11/080, is another option for industrial process cooling. Because to its modular design, each fan can have different impellers (up to ten stages). This is incredibly beneficial when you need to gradually increase the pressure. It aids in the reduction or prevention of turbulence, particularly in applications where the discharge outlet must be blanked off or its diameter drastically lowered at various phases of operation.

How rapidly do you want the object in question to cool? This is critical to the fan's specification. In addition, how hot is the thing to be cooled? And what material is it made of? Because of its great heat conductivity, aluminum cools more quickly than steel. Aluminium dissipates heat up to 15 times faster than stainless steel, which is why it is used in electro-thermal applications like vehicle radiators and air conditioning systems. VENTILATION, HEATING, AND AIR CONDITIONING

HVAC OEMs get their fans and blowers from ACI because they want to be completely assured that the unit powering each installation is exactly perfect and will operate as expected.

Backward-curved impellers are used in fans used for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. These are excellent in delivering large volumes of air at low pressures. This is perfect for HVAC because no one wants to be bombarded with frigid air when using air conditioning. They want a delightful and gently cold wind that brings a breath of fresh air...not an Arctic gust.

Because they move large quantities of air via extensive ducting, backward-curved fans are ideal for this application. This does not necessitate a lot of pressure. And, with the air conditioner on for extended periods of time, the savings provided by these thrifty fans are particularly welcome. True, they aren't as compact as forward-curved fans, but that doesn't matter when the rest of the air conditioning system is so massive.
